Founded in 2016 by Telfer School of Management and Soshal, the Digital Marketing Certificate ("DMC") is an intensive in-person program designed to prepare marketers for leadership in the digital marketing landscape. It challenges people to understand the many facets of digital marketing and gives practical instruction to prepare them for career acceleration. Each module is led by local industry professionals who engage with students on a personal level in a small group cohort setting.

Why take this program?

Get practical skills and learn the tools that will allow you to accelerate or shift your career. This certification is practitioner-led by high-caliber digital marketing experts and focuses on the most up-to-date tools, trends, and practical insights within the industry.

Where can I learn more about the DMC?

Check out our program overview, alumni testimonials, and instructor profiles for more info.

Do I need to have a marketing background?

While a formal degree or diploma in marketing and/or communications is not essential to apply, it does help. We prioritize applicants who can demonstrate a related set of knowledge and experiences, so that all students and instructors can keep pace with the program's modules.

We have had a blend of career accelerators, career changers, entrepreneurs, freelancers, and recent grads who all made the cut in previous cohorts. Learn more about the ideal candidate.

What can I expect from this program?

The Digital Marketing Certificate is an intensive program that will challenge you. It will also give you the opportunity to interact with Ottawa's top professionals in digital marketing, and introduce you to a cohort focused on learning digital marketing -- helping you build the skills and knowledge you need to prepare for an advancement or new career while also building a network of like-minded people in Ottawa.

Do I need my own laptop?

Yes, a laptop is required.

Will wifi be available?

Wifi will be available at the Telfer Desmarais building for the duration of the program.

Is the course offered in languages other than English?

Unfortunately, at this time the DMC is only available in English. Skill and confidence in both spoken and written English is an admission requirement.

Is the program available online?

The DMC program, while dealing with digital marketing, has been built as an in-person offering to maximize the benefits of instructor and student interaction, as well as the interaction with other students in the cohort. As such, it is delivered as an in-person program only.

Do I need to take the whole program? Or can I take just one or two modules?

Our program has been built to take advantage of an integrated learning system that relies on the consistent interaction between instructors and students, as well as building the content from one course to another to form a comprehensive understanding of digital marketing. For this reason, we don't offer standalone courses at this time.

Do I get any other industry certifications as part of this program?

After receiving feedback from industry and students, we consulted with our instructors and opted to remove industry certifications (Google Analytics and Google Ads) from our modules.

The modules are now optimized for learning the skills you can apply immediately in the field, rather than prioritizing the passing of a test you can do on your own. With this stronger foundation, your understanding of the tools and effectiveness in using them will be more advanced. You will be able to earn your certifications independently, with minor additional studying and preparation.
